Familiarity

Waking up in the morning and we would usually first see our own reflection in the mirror. As time goes by, we begin to be familiar with the other ‘being’ in the reflected world. Familiarity is interesting, as it would somehow affect our thoughts, preferences and socializing skills. As studies shown, our friends like the direct image of ours better compared to the mirror image, for they are more familiar with it whereas we, the owner of the reflection would prefer the latter, which is the mirror image. People may think that we have changed if they are being shown the reflected image of ours because our facial features are not symmetrical, or even overreacted when things are not exactly the same as they used to be. We may not know a person so well to the point where we actually know what he’s thinking, but we tend to make assumptions according to what we are familiar with, what we know about him. We would probably take it real harsh, assuming he is having problems, if he does not behave the way he usually does, though the intuition of ours may hits the bull’s eye at times. Guess we just can’t help it but to take things as something new when they don’t appear to be the same.
